My students need a writing conference table for small-group/one-on-one writing assistance. For this to occur effectively, we need an expert corner.

My Students

My students struggle with reading and writing and have convinced themselves that they are not good at any aspect of reading or writing. To foster a positive academic environment, I have eliminated my teacher's desk and am building an 'expert corner' for small group motivation and assistance.

My students come from a campus that is roughly 60% low SES.

Many of my students want to go to college and they need assistance with scholarship essays and college application essays to get there. They have a desire to do well but aren't confident in their abilities. Many do not have the resources to improve as readers and writers without intervention.

My Project

The table and chairs are going to be utilized for reader's and writer's workshop and intervention. Students will utilize the table and chairs to be advocates for their own improvement and will be able to have small group intervention as well as one-on-one assistance.

This project will help my students become life-long readers and writers.

These resources will help me as an educator better assist students by being able to work closely with them without the close proximity of their neighbor listening and watching what we are discussing during our reading and writing workshops as well as students advocating for themselves in the workshop model.
