Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My 2nd grade students live in a low-income neighborhood. Each day, the students come to school ready and excited to learn new things. All of my students speak only Spanish at home, which makes coming to school and speaking English even more exciting!

Even though the children are eager to learn in school, homework becomes an issue. Many times the students do not take all parts of their homework home. On average, three pieces of homework are given each night. Unless a book assignment is given, most of the students will forget the other pieces of homework.

In order to help my students complete homework and become more responsible with their things, a storage area is needed. If each of the students had their own personal mailbox, they would be able to place all of their papers in one spot. At the end of each day, they can take everything from the mailbox and put it directly into their backpacks. Not only will this allow them to become more responsible, but it will also increase their homework grades.

These students are always eager to do well. The mailboxes will add another resource to help them accomplish the main goal of becoming independent and responsible students!
