"Imagine a class of 20 students ranging in abilities from academically gifted to mild mentally retarded and ages 6 to 10. Then think how would you inspire, motivate, challenge, and teach such a diverse group. I am the teacher of just that 2nd grade class! Furthermore, we are part of a high- risk school where 98 percent of my students come from families of poverty.

My students face many challenges as individuals with many academic, emotional, and physical needs. How do we do meet these needs? I have found that MUSIC and MOVEMENT is our class language. All of my students, no matter their abilities or physical needs, respond to music and creative movement whether it be a lesson on language development, reading, math, science, or social studies.

But with a 30 year old phonograph player and 20 year old vinyl records, we are in dire need of music CD's and creative materials to use for dance and movement. All of the music CD's I chose are selected to enhance the class curriculum as well as allow the students to move their growing, wiggly bodies as they learn.
