Reading in Science Class

My Students

We start our days with "Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Ready, GO WARRIORS". Many students are happy to be here, because a lot of times, it is better than being at home. With a high free and reduced priced lunch population, it is my goal to get them ready for the future. Having a reading library will help!

Like I said above, my students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and most qualify for free or reduced cost lunch.

This means that most don't have the supplies they need, and many of them don't have "extra materials" to use to help them further their education. We have materials, but my school can't update them every year and it is very hard to get donations when most families are just trying to survive. They love to learn in several ways, and using books and different types of paper booklets and foldables, helps touch all learners levels.

My Project

I plan and adding to my reading library for science class. We are challenged each year to offer different ways to collaborate and do multiple subjects in one classroom. I was to offer a way for the students to learn as much as possible on whatever topic we are covering in class, and a science classroom library is a great way to do that. I plan on having a reading station once a week, and also offering a place for students to relax and take a break as a reward if they finish work quickly and on time. My students will be able to read and use visuals while in this reading library to make sense of the topic we are talking about each week.

My students don't always have something to look forward to except school.

Having a quiet place to sit and relax will be great for many who sometimes need to just take a minute. It is also a way for students to touch on RLA in science class. My science books are very old, so I don't pass them out. We actually make flip books using colorful paper, and it makes obtaining and recollecting facts much faster and easier for my students. Any help will be a great addition to my classroom and my students!
