The art challenges the technology, and the technology inspires the art. – John Lasseter (Director)
I want my students to know there are important ways to use technology to create innovative art and design.
I teach art to 800 elementary students in a public elementary school in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia.
My students come with a variety of personal, cultural and technological backgrounds. Most of my students are familiar with technology and I want them to experience art and design with technology.
My Project
Why should the integration of technology stop when the students enter the art room? I've attended workshops at our state Art Education conference about amazing ways to incorporate iPads in the art room. My students will greatly benefit from an iPad, a case and cover so they won't worry about having paint-y and gluey hands. I have planned and made examples over the summer using apps to digitally enhance and transform my own artwork. I am looking forward to sharing this method of using technology with my students and discussing how this is just one of the many ways art and design can benefit with technology.
Teachers have the incredible opportunity to raise the next generation.
Through teaching art, my students explore and discuss a variety of cultures, ideas and artworks. We also learn about how, as we enter more and more into this digital age, we need to learn new tools to be successful. Having an iPad the students can use will help us in our art exploration and get the students ready for the upcoming world.
