Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
College begins in Kindergarten!
The biggest challenge is that my Wonderful Whales, as I call them, need to be able to master the alphabet, kindergarten high frequency words or sight words, and to be at on or above grade-level with reading by the end of the school year.
My class is composed of twenty, curious kindergartens.
Though most of them did not have prior schooling before coming to kindergarten, they are eager to learn and show independence in many ways. Like many typical five-year-old kids, they love to interact with technology. They want to do lots of hands-on, engaging, and rigorous activities. An added challenge is that my class is populated with culturally diverse students and students with special needs.
My Project
My students will benefit highly from using these eight tablets with protective covers in my classroom because they will be used by all students in our small reading groups and centers. It will also be used as an assistive technology for my Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) students and students with special needs. These tablets will be essential in developing their reading, comprehension, listening and communication skills.
Together, with programs like RAZ-kids and Headsprout, these tablets will be invaluable everyday!
These tablets will be used in differentiated instruction. They will be used as part of intervention to my English Language Learners and students with special needs and as a tool for advancement for my students who need challenges. This technology will help my “Wonderful Whales” attain fluency, be good readers, listeners, and speakers.
