Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Teens and the Human Body~ My students are at a critical stage in their lives, they do not know if they are still babies or adults. I have a diverse group of students. 44% are Hispanic, 28% Caucasian, 24% African American, and 4% Asian. 80% of out students receive free/reduced lunch. I have exceptional children, inclusion classes, English as a Second Language heavy classes and children with hearing impairments as well as emotional and behavioral issues. My classroom is full of diversities.

Teen, Hormones and now we have to learn the Human Body~ The obstacles are huge. My students range in diversity from language barriers to cultural barriers. It is necessary to make all students aware of their own bodies and how the systems of the bodies work. These times are different now and unless we educate our children on their own bodies and present it in a way that will be interesting for them, they may never learn about it. Our bodies are as different as our ethnicity's are different in my classes. Some cultures are okay with young girls having sex and babies, while other cultures are not okay with this. My job is not to debate who is right or who is wrong. My job is to educate each child so that they can be aware of the changes their bodies are going through and so they are educated enough to make their own decisions and understand the stages their bodies are going through. Once we step over the cultural differences, then we must deal with the economic differences. So many of my students do not have the means to buy microscopes and other pieces of technology in order to understand the human body systems.

The resources needed are definitely microscopes. Four microscopes to begin with will make it possible for me to place my students into cooperative groups in order to work with microscopes to learn about the human body. The maintenance kit will help keep them working properly, the rubber gloves will help when dealing with the slides, and the human body system kits-which include 12 slides will help them to understand their bodies better.

You can make a difference in my kids lives and possibly help their understanding of their bodies. Your willingness to help my kids can be the difference in them wanting to learn more instead of shutting down and not wanting to learn. With the hands on pieces, they will want to learn and explore. These items will entice them in a good way and help them want to learn more. Thanks for considering this proposal and hopefully supporting my kids learn!
