My Students

Do you remember first discovering the magic of books and reading? When you opened that first book that really captured your attention? You most likely still remember that book today. This is my goal for my kindergarten students.

I teach in a low-income, Title 1 school in Montana.

My students come from very diverse backgrounds and home lives. Many of them receive resources from the school to take home with them such as food, coats, hats, mittens, and other necessities. I am fortunate enough to work with these amazing children each day. They love discovering new things and are always ready to learn new things. Finding new ways to engage and support my students in their learning is always my number one goal.

My Project

With your help, the listening center will provide the extra literacy support we are lacking in our classroom. With the use of a listening center students will be able to listen and follow along as a story is read with expression and fluency. We currently do not have a resource like this one available in our classroom. Students do not have the opportunity to work on their own and listen to a story in this way. The only time they are able to hear a story read to them is when I do class book shares. I would like to give my students the opportunity to be exposed to different types of literature and have the option to choose a book that is at their level, interests them, and is engaging.

These tools will create a world of learning that sets the stage for a bright and positive future in reading.
