My students need cooperative group materials to strengthen their ability to communicate and problem solve, including a number line activity center. They also need glue, a communication center, and five pencil sharpeners to record and organize learning.

Middle school students struggle with math concepts and the importance to their lives as well as "soft skills" that future employers are looking for. I want my students to leave my classroom with the ability to problem solve, effectively communicate, and have learned strategies to organize.
My students are amazing kids that come from all walks of life!
My students are in an urban district where the free and reduced lunch rate is 90% or higher. All of my kids have talents and strengths that contribute to our classrooms of diverse learners. Like all middle school classrooms we face challenges everyday but as the teacher it is about finding ways to connect my diverse learners to see that we are all more alike than different. My kids have a want to learn and want to experience success! As the teacher I feel it is my job to help them with opportunities and exposure to find and develop their talents and strengths so that learning can be meaningful. I believe in my students and their talents- thus leading them towards a lifetime of opportunities!
The cooperative learning and math games, glue and other material that I have requested reflect the sense of community that I build in my classroom to help students feel it is a safe space for learning. I often hear employers talking about skill sets in terms of buy versus grow, referring to what skills can be taught with training versus a skill set that a person already has. When my students leave my classroom I want them to be able to demonstrate problem solving skills, the ability to effectively communicate, and understand systems of organization. When these skills are in place a community fosters itself and a productive environment blooms. My students work in collaborative groups to teach and reinforce the above mentioned skills. My students create Interactive Student Notebooks that focus on communicating their learning in an organized way so that the notebook becomes a resource/reference tool for their own learning.
Donations to my classroom will help supply my kids with the materials needed to build Interactive Student Notebooks and provide opportunities for learning in more than one way.
My students leave my classroom feeling more confident in their learning- resulting in a deeper understanding of material. They also leave with strategies for organization and reflecting on their learning. Finally my students have the ability to work through problems that are difficult in conjunction with other students.
