Young children learn by doing, and we need your help funding materials to help us learn math.
Our first grade class is a brand new class that was created this year to reduce class sizes in our school!
Our school is a Title 1 school that just moved into a new (to us) building. We're very lucky to be in this position, but besides some books the other first grade teachers have shared with us, our classroom only has desks and chairs! About 70 percent of our students come from low income backgrounds.
My Project
My students need manipulatives like cubes, Geoboards, and basic blocks to practice fundamental math concepts in small groups. We desperately need math materials to help children learn and understand fundamental math concepts. Young children learn best when they are given the opportunity to manipulate concrete materials and practice concepts they have been taught. The math manipulatives we have requested will allow our first graders to learn addition and subtraction concepts.
It is so important for our children to build strong understandings of quantifying, addition and subtraction in first grade.
These basic concepts will form the strong math foundations on which the children will continue to learn multiplication, division, algebra, trigonometry and calculus, leading them into college!
