Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The ability to read, analyze and comprehend informational text is a key skill for 3rd graders to begin to learn. Scholastic News Magazine will give students the opportunity to engage with real news stories, use text features, form their own point of view and interact authentically with the world.

I serve students in one of the largest Title One schools in Montgomery County, Maryland.

The school has a high population of English Language Learners which makes exposure to and direct teaching of vocabulary very important. My students are super excited to begin our new school year!

My Project

Scholastic News will support students in building comprehension when reading informational text. Students will use the high interest articles found in Scholastic News Magazines during literacy work stations to read and respond to the text. In the newspaper literacy work station students will read real news stories, write their own news stories, differentiate ideas, increase their vocabulary and more!

By donating to this project, you will improve learning in our 3rd grade class by allowing students to engage with authentic, high interest, REAL informational text.

This project has the ultimate goal of supporting 3rd graders in developing in the reading habits of life long readers and learners.
