My Students

Picture it, a classroom with students eager to excel but lacking the tools to compete with more fluent socioeconomic students. Students who would benefit from more technology are hindered by the lack of visual, interactive mathematical resources. My students would use and benefit Chromebooks everyday.

We are a very small, rural high school in upper east Tennessee.

The average student is responsible, tenacious, appreciative, and academic; however, the school population is in a very poor socioeconomic area. Due to the community status, students do not have the materials in the classroom or at home to meet the rising demands of technology. Technology is a standard part of their lives, without access to the growing demands in K-12 education, college and the workforce, my students will be at a greater disadvantage than many in the state and across the globe.

My Project

My students will use these 13 Lenovo IdeaPad Chromebook tablets to develop their understanding of complex mathematical and scientific content. We will be doing many engaging activities including math and science simulations, using online calculators and graphing tools as well as creating projects that deepen their understanding of the complex fields of engineering and science. Students will investigate situations that occur naturally in math and science through models via the Internet and will connect the learning in the classroom to real world situations.

Technology is a standard part of most students' lives; without access to the growing academic and technological demands, my students will have academic and economic disadvantages.

My students need to gain fluency in the delivery of mathematical and scientific content through technology to achieve success in the future. My students will not be able to compete in the workforce without it.
