"In my room, students learn the basics of reporting, layout, design, photography, business, advertising and media ethics. I teach one course of Journalism I and two courses of Beginning Yearbook. In the afternoon, the staffs of our two student publications meet. We publish eight issues of the student newspaper per year, and we also publish a 244 page yearbook. Our publications are funded completely from sales of yearbooks and advertising, and from donations. Our school has an enrollment of 1361, and my classes typically host 110-125 students per year.

Currently, my students are working with just three licenses of Microsoft Word. The newspaper staff has 15 students, all of whom have stories to submit at the same time. The yearbook staff has 31 students with the same dilemma. They are constantly jockeying around to complete their assignments with this enormous inconvenience.

We are in need of two copies of the Macintosh version of Microsoft Office, which will provide us with six additional copies of Microsoft Word. Having this would be an huge step forward in the production of our newspaper. It will relieve stress for students, and it will aid in the timely production of our paper.

Your support will assist my students in many ways. They can use the program to edit their stories, and they can use it to work on assignments from other teachers during their lunches and after-school study times. Knowing they can go to any of our computers and access Microsoft Word will make life a lot easier in the journalism room. This software will impact my current students as well as many more in the coming years.

My journalism students need additional licenses of Microsoft Word for composing and editing student newspaper stories. The cost of this proposal is $419, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."

Dear David and Anonymous Donor,
Thank you so much for funding our project! There will be immediate benefit for my entire newspaper and yearbook staffs. I just told my newspaper editors that the funding had come through, and they stood up and yelled, "Yes!" They are truly thrilled. We appreciate you so much!
Heather
