My students need a variety of books from different genres to expand our classroom library while also meeting the different needs and interests of the students.

My Students

Books. They transport us into another world. As an educator, I work very hard to unlock that magical place for every student, regardless of interest or ability level. My #1 goal every year is to create readers that love to read - every single student!

I have about 25 students that come from various cultures and home lives.

They like sports, they like animals. Most of them have grown up living in the same neighborhoods together. Our school is a safe, welcoming place that LOVES to read! Third grade is an amazing year of growth. It is an incredible miracle to watch them grow as readers. At the beginning of each year, I administer an interest inventory so that I can better match students with books that foster an absolute love of reading.

My Project

Providing these books will help in two ways: one, it will allow for more shared reading experiences that we can have whole group. Two, the books will be sorted and available to all the students in our classroom library. Reading for pleasure is an integral part of teaching reading, and I want to ensure I have the books to reach each and every learner.

The classroom library is a revolving door.

Some books get "well loved," while other books are popular one year, but not as much the next. It all depends on the class' individual interest. In particular, third grade is the year of incredible growth in reading, especially reading to gain knowledge. Having plenty of books so you can match that reluctant student up with the book that will light his reading fire is crucial. Having higher level books that push your highest learners is also crucial.
