My students need 4 Kindles to use during reading and math centers to improve on skills.

"Teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning." --This is a quote that describes the heart and minds of the students that I work with everyday. My students come to school every day not only to be taught but they also crave any love, care and attention I am able to give to them.
I work at a charter school in a low-income area.
Many times my days are spent giving hugs and listening to what their needs are before I can begin to teach. My 2nd grade students are all at different learning levels. Some students may be below grade level academically. Some students may still be learning basic skills while other students are able to work on more advanced skills. My goal as a teacher is to teach each student at their level and to provide them with the best set of skills to work independently to achieve.
During reading and math centers my students work in small groups. I have made and bought many different hands on games and manipulatives. In the picture with my project I have used popsicle sticks, a recycled soup can and a worksheet that is reinforcing sight words which will help students become better readers. While these are great activities to have during centers, using technology to reinforce sight words and other reading skills would be very beneficial in my 2nd grade classroom. Using Kindles in the classroom will allow students access to technology and interactive learning apps that can further their learning. My students will be able to learn and review basic phonics skills or reading comprehension. Since each small group may be working on different skills using Kindles will allow students differentiated instruction at their level. My students will also be able to work independently and develop responsibility using Kindles.
My students can benefit from more technology in the classroom.
Using Kindles will help me as a teacher reach more learning styles and keep students engaged. This will also give students an opportunity to work on reading and math skills at their own learning pace. I will be able to devote more of my time to small groups of students after a lesson has been taught.
