My class is an energetic bunch of second grade learners with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. This is a group of learners that constantly push me to find new and exciting ways to engage them. We are located at an older school with very limited resources. Even though resources are limited, the school is still a high performing school. It is one of the few schools in the area that has maintained an A each year as well as made AYP. As I have stated, my second graders have an insatiable thirst for knowledge. They are constantly asking me more and more questions about a plethora of topics. We are about to begin report writing and I find myself short of resources for them. Our school library is small with very few non-fiction texts for the students. With over 700 students, the right books are often “checked out.” The public library also has a limited supply of non-fiction books for the students as well. The students can research the topics on-line but with 2 computers and no printer for 19 students, that would be time consuming to say the least. We are an A school so funding is not there to support the extras needed to provide a better learning environment. With these books, I know I can provide my students with the resources they need to be AWESOME report writers. They will have the necessary information at their fingertips to research and write wonderful reports about the animals that interest them. With your help in providing these resources, my students can even be turn these reports into PowerPoint Presentations and Pod casts that can be shared on the web. These energetic second graders thrive on sharing their work with others. With your help in providing the books they need, they can share their love of learning through their work. Please help my students to continue to strive to do their best by providing them the resources they need. Thank you!
