Digital Cameras For Progressing Yearbook Staff

I am the yearbook adviser at a Title I high school in a rural North Carolina county. The majority of our student population is comprised of minority students. Many of our students come from low-income homes and many are increasingly interested in gangs. This is my second year as the yearbook adviser. My staff and I learned much as we worked last year. Over the summer, we went to a yearbook camp.We have a better understanding of what needs to be done to make the yearbook a success. One of our greatest challenges was having quality pictures to use for the yearbook. Our book is created online. It is feasible for us to upload digital photos to the yearbook company's website. At this time, we do not have a digital camera that belongs solely to the yearbook staff. We borrow a camera from another teacher. Sometimes, students borrow digital cameras from family members to take pictures at school. But, I don't feel comfortable with the students having to do that since I cannot guarantee the security of those items. Therefore, I am requesting two digital cameras for student use. Students who sign consent forms will be able to check out the cameras to take photographs of various academic and extracurricular events. These photos would be uploaded directly to our yearbook company's website to be used in our 2009 yearbook. Thanks for considering this proposal. Your gift will allow my yearbook students to take lots of digital photos to be used in the online production of our yearbook.
