I am also involved in a book club with fourth and fifth grade students. We read selected books, make projects and have book discussions. My school is in a high-need community.
NO Library! Many of the students have no way of getting to a public library and can not afford to purchase the books we read. They truly enjoy reading and love the discussions and projects. They are so interested they miss recess to read and work with the book club. We are in need of 15 copies of 5 book titles. Having their own book will allow the students to read at home and help them to build a love of reading. This will also help them gain confidence to succeed in a world full of reading. You will make it possible for the students to believe in themselves and find a true love of reading. The students will be able to begin their own home library and will realize their are other things to do at home than run the streets! My students need 15 copies of 5 book titles, from "Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio" to "Sounder".
