Fun With Roller Coaster Physics

My students need 1 classroom set of KNEX Roller Coaster Physics and motion book titles, from "Motion" to "Falling for Fun" to explore physics by designing and reading about roller coaster models.

I am a first grade teacher at an elementary school where over 70% of the students are from minority backgrounds and are economically disadvantaged/single family homes. Science often is a weak area for many students in the older grades. I think that in order to keep students engaged in science learning later in life, we must pique their interest by building strong foundations early. As a first grade teacher I try to do this with as many hands on real life opportunities as possible.

My group of first grade students are craving opportunities to become scientist and physicists. During our balance and motion unit I have seen students more engaged then ever before. Students have wanted to explore motion even more by creating roller coasters. Left with only household items students were creative as could be in designing roller coasters. I would love for my students to be able to get more hands on opportunities to apply the knowledge they have learned in designing roller coasters. With almost all our students coming from very low income households it is impossible to raise money for a project like this.

These interactive science stations will also encourage cooperation and group learning while fitting in with our first grade science curriculum.

I know these science materials will empower the students to engage in scientific learning and spark their curiosity. I have such an eager group of learners who would love to have access to resources like this. Our students are so passionate about science. With the resources provided through this program we can really bring science to life for these students. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
