My students truly enjoy reading and visiting our classroom library area. I teach first grade in the elementary school that I went to as a child. Some of the same shelving units are still there 30 years later. My students come from many different backgrounds. Our school is a Title 1 school with approximately 90% eligible for free lunch.

My students currently visit our class library on a daily basis and I have used milk crates to organize our leveled books. The shelves in my room are not in good condition. The wood is deteriorating and many nails are coming out. I have done my best to keep it safe for the children. The bins of books are a little difficult for the children to manage but they do their best.

The storage units I am requesting will make the levels and books more easy to be accessed by my students. They will be clearly marked and the students will not have to move book crates. They will be able to go to their level and peruse the books with more ease. When they come back to exchange their books they will be able to do so also with much more ease.

Your help in supporting this proposal will ensure my students will be able to use books they love to read. They will be able to go to the bin for their reading level without confusion. They will not have to lift and worry about dropping a crate of books. They will be able to clearly find their leveled section to borrow and return books with ease. Please make it possible for my students to have an environment that shows that their literacy and love for reading is valued and necessary for success.
