My students need a tablet, three sets of headphones, and a headphone splitter to help aid engaging reading instruction. Technology is a powerful tool in education in this generation.
Reading encompasses everything we do in our classroom. We are growing the love for reading anyway we can. We buddy read, small group read, silent read, big book read, show off read, flashlight read and stories that we write. We read in math, science, and S.S. We will read at any opportunity we have.
Every group of students that come and go through my door are the leaders of the future.
As future leaders, I think it is important for leaders to be able to read and write and at the same time enjoy it. In my classroom, my main goal is to grow a love for reading and writing. We do both all day! The students at my school are so inspiring. They inspire me to come to school each day and give it my all because they are so amazing. My students come through my door each morning with a smile and a handshake, ready to take on the day with a positive attitude no matter what challenge they may face at home: hunger, lack of attention, love.
These kids are so eager to learn. Their eagerness to learn is incredible and its contagious. I work at a title one school, high ESOL and High poverty, where students show off their knowledge and crush standardize tests with their scores regardless of their challenges and obstacles they face at home.
My Project
My students will use a tablet to further assist in improving and teaching the five pillars of reading development: phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and phonemic awareness. Students in this generation are eager to get their hands on any piece of technology they can. In our school, our 3rd graders all received tablets and scores improved. I think having a tablet in the classroom would be such a great tool to use to help aid in teaching younger students how to read. They say K-2 you learn to read, 3-5 you read to learn. I would use the table in literacy stations, math stations, to show videos/pictures during small group instruction, and to read stories on to improve comprehension. I could also so pictures to help improve instruction for ESOL. The students would use the headphones to listen to stories to improve listening comprehension and with the headphone splitter more than one student can listen to a story. These small tools make the tablet even more usable in the classroom.
A tablet in the classroom with improve my students reading and writing by engaging the students in fun games and stories that promote the five pillars in reading (phonics, comprehension, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and fluency).
Kids are interested in technology and want to always be on some type of technology. A tablet would make it more fun to grow a love for reading.
