Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are like little detectives, always searching for information to continue to grow academically. I work to provide my students with as many academic experiences as possible to enhance their learning experience. My goal is for all students to recognize their academic progress and own it.
My students are very diverse.
They represent many different countries/cultures/backgrounds and bring different experiences to our classroom. They are inquisitive, curious, reflective, and persistent individuals. They are humorous and thoughtful. They surprise me daily with their growth as well as keep me reflecting on my teaching practice/philosophy. I would say they definitely take ownership of their learning. My school is Title I with over 80% of the students being ELL. Our school community works together to keep the students engaged in learning as well as invested in their academic progress.
My Project
My students need magnetic letters, reading games, and phonics games to reinforce learning. The teacher cart and caddy are to aid in organization. My students are in their small groups and center rotation. One small group is working with phonics game set (beginning sounds) so they can identify the initial sound in words. Another group is working with reading and language games that give focused practice with identifying rhyming sounds, sequencing familiar nursery rhymes, reading high-frequency sight-words, and more. The last group is working in their guided reading group with me making words with magnetic letters, getting their guided reading books from the teacher cart, and using writing utensils from the teacher caddy to participate in interactive writing. The students are learning to work independently as well as cooperatively as needed.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom by providing us with more small group learning activities linked to common core.
Donations will also help meet my students individual needs. Donations will change my students' lives for the better as they will allow my students to work with multiple activities that are directly related to concepts they are learning about. Students will be able to compare what they learn in whole group to what is reinforced in small groups/guided reading.
