Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The computers in our classrooms are in desperate need of replacement. We all know how frustrating it can be to wait and wait and wait for a page to load only to discover that it won't work once loaded. The Internet is the library of the 21st century. We desperately need your help.
Our kids are brilliant and they deserve basic educational resources.
Serving grades K-5, we strive to guide our students to become “Agents of Change” who can recognize an injustice in the world and then take action to improve our world. Approximately 65% of our students are African American, 29% are Hispanic, and the remaining 5% is made up of Asian (Pakistani, Ethiopian, Filipino) and Anglo American students. Because we are a full Title I school, a vast majority of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches.
Our students may lack the material privileges that other American children are fortunate to have, but they certainly make up for it with talent, fortitude, and sheer intelligence. We live in a world where our youth are simply not provided with enough quality resources to shine. Our state funds the updating of textbooks, but not technology. Your donation will make the dream of a bright future come true.
My Project
The computers in our classrooms are turn of the millennium relics. They are so old that the district will not service them and the Salvation Army will not accept them as donations. As an educator, it is my responsibility to ensure that our students have true access to the Internet.
I am especially excited having each student in the classroom have access to their own computers. Students will be able to create documents, blog, and put together multimedia presentations. With a printer and ink, students will be able to publish and showcase their work.
Students will also be able to do research, create and design pamphlets to alert our community about current issues, communicating with other students around the world, writing and publishing their own work and practicing citizen journalism with others to cover stories on social justice topics.
Your donation will do more than allow our students to keep up with new technology.
Your donation will make it possible for my students to see the power of action. We teach our students that anything is possible if you put forth the best effort. Your donation will help level the playing field and will give our Agents of Change a fighting chance to succeed. That is, quite simply, Social Justice in action.
