"Hello! I teach kindergarten in a rural Title I elementary school where a large percentage of our students receive free or reduced lunch. According to our state’s science curriculum, kindergarteners should observe how weather changes daily throughout the year and record daily weather changes. The children will determine how the daily weather effects outside activities and clothing worn to school. Another important aspect of weather observation is to use specific tools to see and measure daily weather changes.

I wish to purchase activities that will provide the children an opportunity to see weather concepts in action and track daily weather patterns. Imagine seeing kindergarteners using The School Weather Station, a weather center, which has a thermometer to measure temperature, a rain gage to measure precipitation levels, and a windsock to measure wind speed. The children will be able to use the window writers to chart the daily weather.

In addition to the School Weather Station, I wish to purchase a weather discovery kit and a Seasons & Weather Theme box. These kits will give the kindergarten children a hands-on approach to exploring different weather elements and discovering why weather changes. The activities in these kits will give children the opportunity to measure rainfall, discuss clouds, compare snowflakes, and observe the action of the wind. Last, to integrate literacy with science, I wish to purchase some nonfiction books. These books will help make a connection to the daily weather discoveries the children are experiencing.

The purchase of these materials will give children the opportunity to use a kinesthetic approach to explore weather. Since the materials can be shared with the other members of my team each year, countless students can benefit. When the school year is over, the children will have discovered weather elements and tracked daily weather changes. Thanks for taking the time to read my proposal.

My students need 1 School Weather Station, 2 sets of window writers, 1 Seasons & Weather Theme Box, 1 Weather Discovery Kit, and different books about weather.
