My students love technology and authentic learning opportunities. Watching a YouTube video of "MaKey MaKey," students were inspired about the potential of a new learning opportunity.
My students are in grades 6-8 in a rural community which illustrates many components of a Title I school.
More than half of the students in my school are on free or reduced meals. Our district does great things with a shoe string budget, but not every piece of the equipment is affordable.
This funding will enable creativity in a science and language arts combined enrichment class where students will become inventors by turning everyday objects into touchpads by combing them with the Internet. It's a Invention Kit for Beginners and Experts doing STEM.
My Project
The students will be able to use these eight invention kits to create connections, using alligator clips and any material that can conduct at least a tiny bit of electricity and a computer. The "MaKey MaKey" sends the computer a keyboard message. The computer just thinks MaKey MaKey is a regular keyboard (or mouse). Therefore, it works with all programs and webpages, because all programs and webpages take keyboard and mouse input.
Students can be creative, inventive, and imaginative with these easy-to-use invention kits. Students can see the whole world as a construction kit and to think of themselves as Makers and agents of change. When you have the "Maker's Mindset," you know you can change the world.
This project will help change students' lives for the better by giving them a safe, fun, learning environment to attend after the regular school day is over.
Students will be able to become inventors by turning everyday objects into touchpads by combing them with the Internet. It's a simple Invention Kit for Beginners and Experts doing art, engineering, and everything in between.
