"My class of 4th graders partners with a second grade class from a school with similar demographics.

We ask the students to donate a pillow case which acts as the base for our "heart" pillows. Parents supply the needles and thread.

Students from the 2 classes "Partner Up" to create an original pillow in the shape of a heart. These pillows are donated to patients that have undergone heart surgery. In addition to the medical needs, it also provides a welcome relief with its happy, colorful designs.

We are fortunate to have had the stuffing donated but the markers are costly and need to be replaced frequently. The program is highly valued by the hospital, as we serve a population that needs us. The students learn the act of giving without expecting anything in return.

Getting these permanent markers will ensure that our designs on the pillows will be bright and cheerful for the patients. The students will be able to see their designs and how they make a difference in the lives of people who need this service.

This project is a superb way for not only the two classes to get together and learn to accept the differences in their ages and backgrounds, but also to ensure that our service to the hospital will be of the highest quality we can possibly deliver.

My community-service minder students need Sharpie permanent markers. The cost of this proposal is $214, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."

Dear Peter and Anonymous Donor,
What a wonderful and delightful surprise! A s I sat at my kitchen table this spring recess looking through my emails, I came upon the "YOU HAVE BEEN FUNDED" one.

Such a lovely way to start the day. We, as you read, are making heart pillows for cardiac patients. The markers run out quickly thanks to the enthusiasm of all the 4th and 2nd graders using them. We hope to continue these projects with new students each year.

Thank you again for your support and generosity!!

On Apr 29, 2008, Mrs. F. followed this note with student letters sent via mail to the donor who completed this project, and to donors who gave $100 or more.
