6th grade Science, and 7th-8th grade Technology, both with technologically eager/hungry students.

My students devour any opportunity for a new way of learning, especially ones that incorporate technology they can understand. Many of my students love any chance I give them to help teach their peers, get in front of the class and present their understanding. Some students even ask for overhead projectors from their parents as gifts as they enjoy teaching their peers so much! My students, our future leaders of America, being in this youtube, myspace, iPod society know of and understand many of the resources and technologies out there that intimidate many adults. These students have told me on many occasions how cool an "Elmo machine" would be to have in their classroom. Yes my school does have a few LCD projectors to check out from the library on a 2-5 day pass, however with our many ideas for the classroom uses of an LCD, we would have to keep it permanently checked out which is unpractical, and maybe even not possible at this point.

My students and I understand the insane cost of an Elmo machine, and with their collaboration we have come up with a much more cost effective solution. Getting the live feed of a cheap webcam (provided by teacher) run through my laptop (from college) fed into the LCD projector (where a generous person such as yourself comes in) to present on the screen what work the students have done, manipulative's I want to share, or demonstrations for labs! Also there are the obvious uses for the LCD projector, being able to share up-to-date, and current science and technology video, and other multimedia resources to enhance PowerPoint presentations created by the students or teacher. I have filmed many of my own science and technology related videos to expand and excite student learning, but need a way to share it with the students during class time. One of my main goals as a Science teacher is to show students their effect on the global environment, and yet I print up hundreds of sheets of paper a day to get across the same idea that I could get across with a PowerPoint projected on a large screen using a fraction if any paper a day.

There are many more ideas my students and I have as possible uses for this LCD projector, too many to list and think of in one sitting! So now with just ONE piece of technology provided by YOU the donor, combined with other technologies provided by the teacher, and the plethora of ideas from this innovative teacher, and eager students we can do our part to brighten the future minds of America, for these (and future) students current education and lives, and finally, the environment!
