I am a high school Library Media Specialist working in a small rural school with limited funds and could use your help in cheering on the team.

The school has added a course titled History & Sports to interest students in grades 11 and 12 to take an elective and learn more about events that affected history. Due to dropping enrollment the library funding for materials is much lower and we are not able to purchase enough materials for this new course. Students at our school are very athletic and interested in all aspects of sports. This course will draw their interest while teaching the effect that sports has had on history.

The new class will involve researching a topic and writing term papers. To properly research a topic we will need print materials to supplement the online resources. We are looking for materials on the history of sports, how sports relates to history, women's role in sports and the Title IX situation. With the 14 titles we are requesting, students will be able to research right at their own library and not travel 12 miles to the closest public library. The teacher will be able to bring their class down to look up information and check out the materials needed for their project. The books include such titles as: "Outstanding Women Athletes: Who They Are and How They Influenced Sports In America," "Place on the Team - the Triumph and Tragedy of Title IX," "Shattering the Glass: The Dazzling History of Women's Basketball," "Female Gladiators: Gender, Law," and "Contact Sport and Sports in World History."
