Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Ninety minute classes, five days a week in Physical Fitness and Health in the inner city. My classroom is made up of different genders and ages who receive free or reduced cost lunches and breakfasts. A lot of my students rarely eat dinner at home, the norm is McDonalds or Burger King.

The majority of my student are visual learners and special education students. There are one or two working televisions in our whole building for all of the teachers to use. This makes teaching visual learners very difficult. English and math are the key subjects and are the most important in the school setting so those teachers of that subject area have first pick on the TV/DVD equipment. Physical Education and Health fall well to the bottom of the list when it comes to getting much needed equipment and supplies.

Having a TV/DVD player I can show educational films and clips to the students. Working with today's students it can be very hard keeping their attention for more than 20 minutes. Short educational films and clips in the classroom grab the attention of the students and teach them educational material in a different method.

Your help will ensure that my inner-city students will get the equipment needed for them to learn and be able to take some positive experiences away from their high school career into their next endeavor.
