Research shows that parental involvement is the number one factor in determining academic success for children. Minority parents are under-represented in parental involvement programs. Let's help give them a piece of the PIE (Partnerships in Education). This program will give parents of English Language Learners one school term to complete eight pieces of the PIE (by participating in specific educational events with their child). At the end of the term, parents will be rewarded with incentive gifts determined by the number of pieces of the PIE they have completed. Parents who successfully complete the entire PIE program will receive a laptop computer. All gifts will be educationally related, so parents and students win all the way around. Pieces of the PIE include: reading to your child at home, having lunch with your child, attending library day, volunteering in the classroom/school, meeting all of the child's teacher, returning specific forms/surveys about education, and attending parent meetings. This proposal is for the first laptop to be given. As parents become involved, students will achieve greater success in our schools. Let's help everyone get a piece of the PIE.
