Who says public schools don't strive for excellence? Are you tired of hearing about the bad "rap" of public schools? Well I am. I am tired of hearing that there is better education or better teachers at private schools. The problem with public education is not teachers. It is funding.

Our state right now is going through a major budget crisis and guess who is getting hit the hardest? Public education. With this day and age I need every resource available to make my children become productive, educated citizens. If you want to produce more literate students then I need to give them options to learn from. I need to tap into every medium that will help them learn.

The resources I need are in the field of technology. I need Leap pads that will help support and lend reinforcement in the area of literacy. I teach many standards in first grade such as decoding skills, process skills, listening and speaking skills, and fluency skills. I use leveled readers in small group, whole group enriched literature, big books, picture sorts, word sorts, I mean the list goes on and on. I want another strategy that will review, reinforce, and model this skills all in one. LeapFrog LeapPads are an addition to helping students learn how to read and write. I am not going to use this product as my only means of teaching literacy but rather in addition to my millions of other ways I teach reading.

Students need to see literacy being modeled and used correctly. LeapPads demonstrate to the kids different ways of decoding, comprehending and showing fluency when reading stories. I want to be able to provide them access to all strategies and methods when teaching young students how to be literate. Nowadays students need stimulation from every directions. They are in a technology age and get bored quickly. They like to be entertained while learning. No longer can they sit still and learn from teacher lectures. I want my students to be able to try all different strategies when learning how to read and write.
