My first grade students need a place to call their own! We spend a lot of time in our day at our carpet area, beginning at our Morning Meeting and ending with the End of The Day Review. They need a place there to call their own, where there is plenty of room for their bodies, yet small enough that we will all be able to see and hear our lesson focus.

Our classroom has a current carpet area that just isn't big enough! Our kids need a place that lets them know their boundaries by giving them their own place. Our current boring green carpet has no definition and isn't large enough for our kids.

This carpet allows our kids to find their color coded spot. It not only allows the teacher to have the whole class feel at home in their spot, but allows room for students to come to the front of the class by giving plenty of space to walk between rows without tripping on each other. I would not only use this as a primary place for whole group instruction, but would also be able to use it - to call kids by colored rows -use for math when teaching columns and rows, -use as language arts when they are reviewing colors -sounding out words by using the boxes (three boxes for a three part word where the kids can be the letters/sounds) -graphing -to put writing or completed projects, so they could have a place to call home until we are ready as a whole group to work -reduce behavior issues by creating a special place for each person -the possibilities are endless!
