Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Kindergarten class is full of 16 active and insightful 5 and 6 year olds that are beginning their journey of education.

Kindergarten is the base upon which all other grade levels build on. Therefore, Kindergarten teachers have a lot resting on their shoulders. Whenever I read a story in class, we take time to discuss what happened (story elements). Many stories that we use throughout the year have a set of story props that go with them. These story props are the characters, buildings, etc. that were discussed in the story. Using these story props has proven to be a big help with listening comprehension and discussion after we have read a story, but the price to buy these story props adds up quickly!

These 9 sets of story props that I am requesting will be a great help! Before I read a story, I pass out the props to the students. As I read the story, the student with the story prop that is being discussed will place it on the velcro board. After the story, when I am asking comprehension questions, the students can look to the board for a quick reminder of the events and sequencing of the story. This will provide them with a quick reference in order to answer the questions I am asking.

My students' scores on their listening comprehension will improve because of your generosity in providing the story props for the stories we read throughout the year!
