My Students
My students are busy bodies! They always need something to do. Even when we are already doing something. They are inquisitive and are eager to learn. I want to turn this kind of energy into something positive. I want them to become more excited about learning.
I have the pleasure of teaching 20 (Yes ONLY 20) second graders.
Many of them have learned, and are still learning English as a second language. While I am able to communicate in Spanish, one of their primary goals is to become fluent English Speakers. There are times when some of them struggle with the English language and mathematical concepts, but that doesn't stop them... They are resilient!
My Project
We are requesting Math and Sight Word Flash cards, Hot Dots, and a Reading Learning Center. Flash cards are so important for student practice. Fluency, memorization skills and fun while learning enhances their learning experience. Sight words are essential for learning a new language. It helps with reading and builds a students vocabulary. While math is universal, math practice isn't. My students will use the requested materials in their daily class centers. Centers are a wonderful way to allow students to explore and practice with a little freedom. With these materials they will learn math fluency, memorize sight words, and become better readers.
Many of my students don't have practice materials at home and the only time they are exposed to these things are in the classroom.
I want to make their time in the classroom count. I want them to be excited about learning the way that I was as a child. I think this will make a difference in their lives because they will be excited to come to school each day and learning won't feel like a bore or a chore!
