I teach over 500 students at my school. All are below poverty level and have little or no access to books. Our library is 50,000 dollars behind and has books from the 1940s. This community is the 5th most violent in the US. Every day around my school are shootings and murders. These children live in a highly-violent crime area. Many have no food in their daily lives.

We have no new books. The only way I can get them into the hands of students and make a classroom library for the whole school in my lab is with help from others. I literally will have students fight over books. They will actually pull and punch over books that are interesting and good.

In order to give hope for the future to these students I want them to dream and read about what the future could be like and about inventions that have happened. We are going to create PowerPoint shows of what we think the future could be like. But before we do that we need to read 3 books for each student of what a future could be like.

You are going to give the next generation the dreams of a successful and bright future and how they can be a vital, non-violent, educationally sound part of it. These children need dreams to remove them of the nightmare of having no dinner and clothes that are holey and smell. They need a book to put dreams back into their heads and minds. Please help me give them these dreams.
