Have you heard? First Graders need their own pair of headphones! I teach a class of 23 fabulous first graders who looped up to First Grade with me from Kindergarten this year. We are a classroom family that is looking for ways to improve our learning and technology skills in the classroom.
This past year, our school was fortunate enough to receive three Chromebooks in each classroom.
Thanks to our PTA this technology has allowed my students to use our at-home reading program during the school day as well as my students now have access to learning websites to help enrich all areas of our curriculum. Many of these websites offer oral directions or fun learning sounds to hold my first graders attention. Also, our at-home computer based reading program has a component for my students to listen to books at their own reading level. Unfortunately, my students do not have headphones to properly listen to the activity they are working on without disrupting the rest of the class. Having their own set of headphones will provide my students will more learning opportunities without disrupting their peers.
My Project
If my class receives their own pair of headphones, the students will be able to use our at-home reading program at school. This will not only increase my students technology skills, but will give those students who do not have Internet access at home the ability to listen and read books at their own reading level during the school day. My students are a diverse group that includes Spanish speaking students as well as low income students that do not have access to a computer at home. By providing my students with their own headphones, all of my students will be given the same learning opportunities with less distractions.
Thank you so much for your help with this project.
It would mean so much to my first graders to get their own pair of headphones to use with our classroom Chromebooks. It would mean so much to me to provide all my students with the same learning opportunities and help my fabulous first graders increase their technology skills while learning and having fun along the way.
