"I teach 4th/5th grade in a racially diverse and economically deprived classroom with a high academically needy population. My school is becoming a K-8 school with an autism inclusion program, gifted population, Head Start and develpmentally delayed special education preschools, plus transitional kindergarten. In addition, this school includes 29 different spoken languages.

I am seeking specific writing tools that will help this racially, economically challenged and academically struggling population to be successful writers. Each day I face a language barrier alongside frustrations, defeats, struggles and challenges that constrict and inhibit my abilities to reach this desperate, needy population. Specific writing tools will assist my students to unveil their thoughts, organize their thinking and display their processes in writing. Paper and pencil is just not enough. These writing tools will give my students strategies to hold onto that will instill pride and empower them with the necessary skills to become successful writers.

The writing tools include revising/editing guides, reading/writing skill flipcharts, word bank journals and writer's notebooks. These tangible writing tools will specifically guide my students alongside my instruction. It will scaffold their writing progress with specific support much like the building of a house with a solid foundation and framework. My highly needy population will begin to see themselves not just as writers, but successful writers!

These writing tools will make a tremendous contribution towards enhancing the education of my multilingual, multicultural population. Writing and reading are intricately woven together. You will make it possible for my racially diverse, economically challenged population of 4th/5th graders to see this interrelationship. It will empower them to forge ahead in their learning as they see their hard work turn into academic success!

My project needs 4 sets (of 10 each) reading and writing helpers, flip to learn revising and editing guides, word bank journals and writers' notebooks. The cost of this proposal is $687, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."
