We Need Mice (computer mice, that is!)

My students need 25 computer mice to assist in using laptop computers.

This project expired on August 29, 2008.

Most people do not want mice in their school; however, my students need mice - computer mice, that is! I have had the opportunity to teach for the past 12 years. For the past ten years, I have taught third grade. My class size has ranged from 20-28 students each year. As an elementary school teacher, I teach all subject areas-math, reading, writing, word study, science, social studies, health, and computer skills.

Integrating technology into the different subject areas increases student engagement as well as better prepares students for the 21st century. My school is very fortunate to have a mobile laptop lab for students to use. My students publish stories during writer's workshop, complete science or social studies web quests, research topics using the internet, post blogs, create wikis, and practice math skills on math related websites. Since we have a laptop lab, all my students can be engaged in these activities at the same time! However, most third graders have limited computer skills, especially with laptop computers. The pad on the laptop that allows students to control the cursor is very awkward and not user-friendly for third graders. They often become frustrated and discouraged from using the computers because the pad is difficult to use.

I am requesting 25 computer mice to assist my students in using our school's laptop lab. The mice can easily plug into the laptop's USB port. Students can more easily and independently type, research topics, and practice needed technology skills to enhance their education.

Your help will ensure that my students will be able to focus on learning as well as develop their technology skills.
