I teach a split class of 7th/8th graders that come from predominately single parent homes. My school is in a high-need community impoverished area.

My students are faced with many obstacles mainly stemming from lack of fathers in the home, single parent homes, parents lacking the necessary tools and time to commit to their educational needs. One time I purchased a disposable camera and was able to capture my students at various points of learning via independent, group settings, and whole class. I then posted these pictures throughout the classroom, and believe it or not this inspired the students to work hard, because my phrase was "catch me learning" and that's exactly what they did.

The resources that I need is a digital camera and photo printer. I feel this project will benefit my students in several ways: 1) as described previously this will spark the desire to always be on top of their work, because they will be in the spotlight. 2) it will act as a motivation for my students that normally slack off on assignments because they too will want to be caught learning so that they also have a chance to shine. My goal for receiving these particular resources is so that all my students will get their chance to be in the spotlight for doing what they need to do to be lifelong successes.

You will make it possible for my students to be empowered and realized for their wonderful efforts in the 7th/8th grade and hopefully throughout their lives. In an environment where it seems that all is lost, you'll give my students that beacon of hope as their faces are shone throughout their school community. Giving students and their parents as well something to be proud of.
