This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students LOVE reading, but teachers are struggling to find texts on their reading and instructional level. We need easy reader texts in order to push our readers to the next level.
As the literacy coach of a Title One school, I see the how much our students want to read.
Our school has the highest poverty rate in our district and often our students come to school without their basic needs met. The majority of our students do not have access to books or have the support at home to help them grow as readers. Due to this fact, we have a significant number of students reading well below grade level.
My Project
Since the majority of our students do not have access to books at home it is crucial that we have access to books at school. It is also important that we have lots of books and resources that we can send books home with students so they can read at home. Throughout the years our reading materials from our literacy lab have become lost or damaged and we are lacking the materials we need to teach our earliest readers. We need books that will not only engage our young readers, but are on a level they can read independently or with teacher support.
By fulfilling my donor's choose project, I will be able to provide books for our students to use during independent reading and guided reading.
Please consider helping us get the appropriate reading materials we need to help our young readers succeed!
