I teach chorus, grades 9-12, at one of the fastest growing high schools in upstate South Carolina.

The number one advantage of having video-recording equipment for my classes is for feedback. Having several classes of nearly fifty students each, it is quite difficult to give students efficient feedback when I cannot watch everything that is going on. I have to accompany my own students, which means that I cannot watch their individual performance. If I cannot give them feedback as singers then I cannot help them grow as singers. At a former high school that I taught at, I was fortunate enough to have a broadcasting department that recorded every performance that my students had. They also had extensive coverage in school newspapers and web pages. At this high school, we have not had a single program recorded. My students achievements can never be seen by future students or returning alumni. Also, the chorus was not even included in last year's school yearbook.

With our own video camera and digital camera I will be able to go back and critique my students' performance. That could be their class performance or concert performance. I will also be able to record memories that will last a lifetime for my students. Also, there will be a way to ensure they will be included in news and yearbooks just like every other club in our school is.

You will help ensure that my students' will grow as performers and their musical heritage is captured and accessible for many years to come.
