Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At the All City Leadership Academy, we have slowly but surely been building our music program over the past three years. As we are a grade 6-12 school, we started music at both the 6th and 9h grade levels, and now are able to offer some musical opportunities to students in every grade. While some students have elected to take band or choir, many other students have been asking to try their hands at piano. Unfortunately, we only have one school piano, which makes full class instruction virtually impossible. Fortunately, this is all about to change thanks to a few extremely generous donors at DonorsChoose who have just agreed to supply us with 15 piano keyboards this winter.
As my excitement about the pianos has grown over the past few days, I have realized there is one snag in the success of the program -- we have no piano music! I am requesting several copies of a basic piano book as well as a variety of specialty piano books to spark the students' musical interests. With the books including everything from the classics to rock and roll to jazz, my hope is that my students will have the tools to be jammin' out by spring -- if you can help us we will definitely be 'playing your praises!'
