Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every morning, we start the day by looking at famous works of art in our text books and connecting them to our lives. We describe the works of art by discussing the lines, shapes, forms. We interpret the art work by discussing the meaning behind the art work. Why was it made?
My students are in Art I, and most of them have never been exposed to Art or Art History before.
My school is a large, magnet school geared towards careers, so my students have interests in careers ranging from Engineering to Construction. My students are very creative and diligent, and they work with any materials I have given them. They also love to read and write about Art History, critique each other's work, and write journals about their own work.
My Project
We are requesting a projector, set of 4 laptops, camera, 2 memory cards, and a printer. My students will work in groups to create PowerPoints that will teach the rest of the students about famous artists and their art work. Each group will use online resources on the laptops, and the will present their PowerPoints with the projector. Students will also update our class blog on wordpress.com with the laptops and display their posts with the projector for peer critiques. Inspired by what they have learned from their peer's presentations, my students will create their own works of art, take photos of them using the camera, and create digital portfolios on the laptops.
This project will improve my classroom by allowing students to integrate technology into our curriculum.
Students will be able to use an endless number of resources online to learn more about artists, art works, and movements in history. They will also be able to teach each other and learn from their peers. This will not only promote learning, but it will also foster team work and a heightened sense of community.
