Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students know....TOTALLY judge a book by its cover! If the pages are tattered and the spine has numerous lines all over it, IT MUST BE A WONDERFUL BOOK! Everyday students find a cozy space in the room either with a pillow or mat and enjoy their just right book entering in a world of fiction.
Our students come from the community around the school.
They are all low income students of color longing to be categorized as something other than just that. They are brilliant, loving students who see themselves as learners. They love adventure and independence.
My Project
I am requesting an assortment of fiction and non-fiction books in Spanish to incorporate into their Book Bag for Reader's Workshop. Our school thrives on a bilingual curriculum where students are able to flourish in two languages. I have a library full of books, hardly any of them are in Spanish. These Spanish books will allow my students to continue their bilingual education while continuing to foster their love of reading. I am ordering a plethora of fiction and non-fiction books in Spanish. Students will also be able to continue learning about animals and notable figures in history, which is a struggle for most reluctant readers.
These resources will significantly improve my students' effect as well as fostering a love affair of reading in both English and Spanish.
Most of my students will be able to see themselves as readers and writers since many of their first language is Spanish. This project will help the 90 students that come into my doors today and future classrooms to come.
