My students need a document camera that would be used in every subject area.

I am a fourth grade teacher in an at-risk school. Trying to integrate as much technology in the classroom as possible is very challenging. We are a very old school, so technology for each class is sparse. We have only one computer lab. Divide the time by 17 classes, and...well, my inner city kids have little chance to "rub shoulders" with technology. In my classroom there are two computers and one ancient TV. I had to purchase the DVD player with my own monies to show Bill Nye the Science Guy presentations. This situation is also challenging as the kids do not have computers at home!

My kids are from the culture of POVERTY. They come to me with little background knowledge. Few books, if any, in the home. No trips to natural history museums, art galleries, etc.

I teach all subjects. Showing old photos of Weber County and Utah would greatly enhance my kids' learning of Utah History. The document camera would also enable the kids to see me modeling the manipulatives in math, rather than having them all crowd around to see the base 10 blocks, dice, math tiles, or whatever. It would also be the BOMB in writing. I could use samples of the kids' work to show concepts and ideas. Artwork would be so much easier to teach when the kids can see examples out of artbooks. Since I teach recorders, this would help me teach the kids note reading and writing. I would use this document camera in every subject! This document camera will benefit my current fourth grade class and many others for years to come. My students will be able to share, teach and learn using this tool. When students are sharing their work, they will be able to simply place the problem under the document camera, and it will display for the whole class to see. We will also use it when doing our science labs.

When you donate your money, you want to know it will be used. THIS WILL BE USED EVERY DAY IN EVERY SUBJECT! Can you imagine how motivating it would be for a writer to have the whole class read along, while you share your piece with the class? See a picture out of a book, without having someone's head in your way and squinting to see a 3" square photo? COOL, EXCITING, SHOW ME MORE! You would help these kids see things they never have seen in their lives. It is hard to verbally describe granite, obsidian, muskrats, or beavers without a picture. Yet they need to know all of this to pass the CORE test at the end of the year. We need your help!!
