3D Printers Build Leaders!

My students need a 3D printer to make parts for our roller coaster project. If we can't take the kids to an amusement park, then let the kids make their own!

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

we are working to become global leaders. As a result, they are doing research on how a 3D printer and robotics can be used to custom design a miniature, working, roller coaster. Last year, a hand full of students designed robots. This year, we set our goals higher!

Students have a new science academy program called STEM.

This academy encourages students, especially girls, to learn math, science and technology. My students love solving things. They love to take things apart and put them back together. These students are inquisitive and persistent. When students encounter problems, they team up, talk out solutions and apply what they learn. As we know, it's one thing to have an idea in your head, and another thing to hold it in your own hands. This year, students want to learn more about how the MakerBot is an expansion tool. I want students to re-experience the, "I knew it would work!" moment. Every student wants the chance to show growth.

My Project

Since our students couldn't afford a field trip to the amusement park, they decided to design a working MakerBot roller coaster instead! Students have created small brush robots that move. Students want to produce various pieces of a miniature roller coaster with working tracks. Students will use their MakerBot roller coaster to encourage other students to join the STEM academy. Students will also explain their math and technical skills when explaining which parts they designed and why. Students will document what alterations, customization, and additional supplies they needed to use in order to obtain a functioning piece of equipment like a roller coaster. During Open House Night. Students will play video showing how they calculated, graphed, measured, and programed each roller coaster part. With cool equipment, students will become future leaders with high end technology skills that can be applied immediately!

Give students the tools we didn't have.

MakerBot can only help us turn novices into entrepreneurs. Students can change the world, one track at a time. With the 3D printer, our students won't have to wait. MakerBot provides quick, affordable, designs that can change the way we encourage our students to think. Please help me provide the Technology component we so desperately need in the STEM academy!
