Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

They are excited by life...and need supplies to help them live life to the fullest! I teach third grade at DC Prep Edgewood Elementary School in the Northeast of Washington, DC. I have an inclusion of special education students and general education students.

My students live in a city with some of the worst poverty in the nation. Our students come with many needs, but all are eager to learn. On a daily basis I have multiple students come without a backpack, or materials needed to be successful. My students deserve the same opportunities that students in the local suburbs are given. My students need supplies to be successful.

The materials I have requested will help my students organize their materials. The baskets will hold the student's books because we only have tables and no desks. The bags will hold the student's reading books so that they have a place to take home books to read and then return them to share with classmates. Students need a way to transport reading books back and forth to school so that they are able to read with their family every night.

Your help in organizing my students and our classroom will allow students the opportunity to be successful not only in third grade, but as they grow into being the scholars they are capable of being.
