"I am the sole art teacher for the 460 students of a K-6 elementary school in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The students at our school are predominantly low-income children of color. While the school feels strongly about providing meaningful art experiences for all students, our budget for supplies is virtually non-existent.

Despite the financial limitations, I am deeply committed to facilitating high-quality, critical, and contemporary art projects. I believe such projects should build upon the knowledge and experiences students already possess as invaluable members of our learning community. I feel strongly about using non-traditional and recycled materials in our classroom. However, a visual arts program is not complete without a few basic art supplies - and this is precisely what we are lacking.

Children's scissors, tempera cakes, multicultural skin-color markers and drawing paper are a few of the materials we would love to put to use immediately. Such items will be essential in the upcoming creation of collage-illustrations for autobiographical poetry books, posters for imagined presidential candidates, and portraits of family and community members.

Please help us stock our art room with these inspiring and age appropriate art supplies! Just like books for language arts and magnifying glasses for science, providing students with these materials will help send the powerful message that the arts are an irreplaceable part of an elementary education.

Thank you!!

My students need basic art supplies like paper, washable markers, children's scissors, and tempera cakes. The cost of this proposal is $554, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."

Dear Ms. L, Ken, Slickrock Adventures, Ellen, Joe and Audrey and Anonymous Donor,
I cannot thank you enough for your generous gift to our art class. I can't wait to tell the students and staff at school! Just this past week my younger students were asking if we could paint in the new year and I didn't know how to answer them. Now, thanks to you and the tempera cakes your donation will provide, I can say "Yes! We will paint!" And this is only one of the resources made possible by your donation that we'll put to use immediately.

Thanks again.
I wish you the happiest of holidays and a peaceful new year.

Sincerely,

Amy G
