"My school is 50% African American and 50% Latino and is located on the southwest side of Chicago. The poverty rate among our students is 94.1%.

I took over our school newspaper at the beginning of this year. The school issued me one computer for 100 students in 4 classes to make the program a success. In the past two years, our school has issued 3 newspapers. That's only 3 papers for two entire school years. Where I grew up we called that a yearbook, not a newspaper!

Then I asked to run the program.

I have 100 students (4 classes), and we have, as of this writing, published 3 editions in the first 6 weeks of school.

We have made great progress, but our school newspaper program is in need of one item that would really help us improve our paper's quality immeasurably.

We need a digital camera!

If we had a digital camera, students could visually document school functions such as sporting events (try to imagine a newspaper with an article about the homecoming game without any pictures), dances, and other events such as guest speakers, etc.

Won't you please help? It seems like such a small thing, but a digital camera would make all the difference in the world to my students.

My students who run the school newspaper need a digital camera.

Dear Elizabeth, Nicholas Kristof, aNN, Chad and Anonymous Donor,
Please accept my heartfelt gratitude for funding the purchase of the camera for my journalism students. They have made great strides this year and now, with your help, we will work towards being the best student-run paper in all of Chicago. Your help is making that possible.

Again, on behalf of all of my students, thank you for your kind donation. It means so much to us.
