My students need 3 sets of Danny books, 2 Danny posters, and 1 chapter book to enjoy learning and growing with Danny while reading.

I am a reading recovery teacher in a low-income school. Reading recovery services first grade students who are struggling to meet the average of the class in reading and writing skills. I work with students, who qualify for reading recovery, on a one on one basis for 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. Together we work on reading and writing skills and I provide an atmosphere where my students feel confident because they can read books at their level.

I attended the National Reading Recovery Conference a few years ago and got turned onto the Danny collection. I brought the books back to school and when I introduced them to my students, they loved them! I feel the students form a connection to Danny as he is a real dog and the pictures in the books show real situations. These books are my approach to incorporate non-fiction to my struggling readers. Several students frequently ask if I have any more Danny books that we can read after they have read all the ones I do have. Seeing the slight disappointment on their faces tugs at my heart.

These sets of books will increase my reading recovery book collection as well as increase the number of books for my students to read and help them make stronger connections with Danny. Now I won't have to see the twinge of disappointment as often when I tell my students they have read everything I have about Danny!

Your help will ensure that my reading recovery students will grow more confident with their reading skills as well as their comprehension as they read the Danny books. You will also complete the Danny Collection in my reading recovery library.
